The Association of Women Accountants Ghana (AWAG) marked a significant milestone in its institutional journey with the successful hosting of its first-ever international conference in Istanbul from 9th to 19th April 2026. The landmark event was made possible through a strong partnership with Global Wings Travel and Tours and its capacity consulting service, which played a central role in planning, coordination, and execution.
This maiden international gathering brought together AWAG members and professionals across borders, creating a dynamic platform for knowledge exchange, collaboration, and professional networking. Through a well-structured program, participants engaged in insightful discussions, shared industry experiences, and explored innovative approaches to governance, finance, female leadership in audit, navigating power structures, bias, and workplace politics, strengthening strategic decision-making and ethical leadership, corporate boards and professional development.
A key highlight of the conference was the lineup of distinguished speakers who delivered impactful sessions. These included Mine Günes Kaya, Creative and Scientific Products Manager based in Istanbul, who provided a global perspective on innovation and product development. From Ghana, Agnes Otoo Yeboah, a Chartered Governance Accounting Expert, delivered thought-provoking insights on governance and accountability. Isaac Adjin Bonney, a highly respected professional holding CA, CPFA, and CFIP credentials, also contributed valuable expertise, enriching the conference dialogue.
The program was spearheaded by the AWAG President, Mrs. Akua Bonsu-Owu, whose leadership and vision were instrumental in bringing this international initiative to life. Her commitment to expanding AWAG’s global reach was evident throughout the event.
Beyond logistics and travel coordination, Global Wings Travel and Tours provided strategic advisory support, ensuring the program delivered both professional value and a seamless international experience for participants.
Following the conference sessions, participants were treated to an enriching cultural and leisure experience across some of Istanbul’s most iconic landmarks. Members explored the serene island of Büyükada, visited the historic Sultanahmet Square, and admired the architectural beauty of the Blue Mosque.
The group also toured the renowned Grand Bazaar, one of the oldest and largest covered markets in the world. Visits to Taksim Square and a walk along Istiklal Avenue provided a glimpse into the city’s modern energy and cultural diversity. Participants further enjoyed views of the iconic Galata Bridge and the historic Galata Tower.
A standout moment of the trip was a memorable all white dinner cruise along the Bosphorus, where members experienced Istanbul’s breathtaking skyline while strengthening professional and social connections.
